Again, a well known company says its participation in this year’s Game Fair from Gamescom. After Nintendo and THQ recently, according to a press release of the German branch of Sega also wants to stay away from the fairgrounds. As a reason, a lukewarm filled calendar is specified.

As a reason for absence from the game show will not Sega about a declining importance of the same in Germany and Europe. Rather, one’s own schedule has meant that they had probably present simply is not much.

Excerpt from Sega’s press release
Sega has decided not to participate this year in gamescom. The exhibition appearance in 2011 was very successful for Sega and the event will continue the most important date in the European event calendar. Unfortunately harmonize the release dates of the 2012er AAA titles, and our new projects, not with the gamescom date in mid-August. This does not mean that Sega will never participate in a gamescom – it is rather a purely economic decision for the year 2012.

Sega is not the first manufacturer of classic video games, not who is taking the course to Cologne this year. Also, Nintendo and THQ keen on going to the fair and the associated costs. Both companies are financially hit, albeit to varying degrees. At the same time seem to developer and publisher of online games and social thriving. Representatives of these companies you will probably find more on the trade fair, held in August. This will also mean that the Gamescom may continue to rise. Both the number of exhibitors and the exhibition space is provided to define compared to previous years.

Posted: April 24th, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Smart Phones | Tags: , , ,

A Trojan for smartphones, it is possible to use motion sensors to spy on the input of the user on the touch screen. The researchers demonstrated the Pennsylvania State University and IT company IBM in the example of a malware for Android systems.

They developed an appropriate pest proof-of-concept. The “TapLogger” baptized malware initially worked in a kind of training phase. Here, the Trojan collects information about the click behavior of their users and builds a small database. This will eventually allow a more thorough analysis, shared with the researchers.

Nestled in the tiny pest is a game that brings the user clicks on each of predefined points. Some 400 events satisfy the Trojans touch, according to the researchers to analyze later on the basis of slight movements of the smartphone while typing quite accurately, which makes the user inputs.

Next, the Trojan also uses inputs to sniff out the game. He may for example get to sensitive data like passwords. He then sends this information to the currently active app out, criminals could for example come into possession of access to accounts.

In this way, let the built-in security mechanisms to deal fairly simple. The direct monitoring of signals from the touch screen by a third application is typically blocked, so that a keylogger would rather stand out here. The motion sensors provide their information on the other hand, uncontrolled any software that requires them. Unlike some other sensors such as the GPS module, this is no user consent is required. In the development of the trojan, it was primarily concerned to show what is possible, and to sensitize the security scene for such scenarios.

Prices for NAND flash memory continue to fall

Posted: April 23rd, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Electronics | Tags: , ,

As Digitimes reports, is currently the prices are for NAND memory falling. The reason, according to industry sources, the lack of demand are that has been going on for some time now and their negative consequences brought to bear.

The low consumer demand for NAND flash memory makes it a just at a time when the producers due to progress through new manufacturing technologies was speeding up the production, which has implications also for lowering the price level. In particular, there are the 19 nanometer and several in the range between 22 and 28 nanometer manufacturing technology underlying the emissions per wafer increase significantly.

Since this fall, the prices below the costs, the manufacturers would now be looking for ways to re-establish a price stability. According to sources, it is also a reduction in price wars with each other are considered. It is also expected for the second half of 2012 a price rally in the memory chip, then there should also increase the demand caused by increased demand for embedded solutions and SSDs.

ZumoDrive service ending next June 1

Posted: April 21st, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , ,

ZumoDrive was one of the most interesting alternatives to Dropbox that existed in the market. But it seems that will not continue with the service and is advising all users to download their files ZumoDrive before its final closure on June 1. Failure to do so the files will be deleted.

To facilitate the process available to Windows users and Mac download tool Massive files so we do not lose the data that we currently housed in ZumoDrive. Justify the decision taken as part of the development of MotoCast , a storage service and synchronization of files in the cloud that currently only available for the Razr phone and tablets Droid Droid x and b oard of Motorola. Besides the usual features ZumoDrive and ZumoCast, the desktop client can make a backup on the computer of contacts and content of the SC card of your mobile device.

Also affected users of other services like Yahoo’s MyDrive and they access through the Web or mobile devices to ZumoDrive. However, the closure will not affect customers using HP Cloud Drive or Toshiba App Place Bundle, even ZumoCast users may continue to use the service, but the fact is that, being now only available for devices Motorola loses much of its charm .

Motorola buys ZumoDrive, that little is left after Google

The truth is that MotoCast seems a good service to complement Motorola’s mobile devices, but also a poor excuse to close ZumoDrive. A service that worked very well and instead of strengthening have declined in their functionality. May influence the decision to close the arrival of Google Drive is expected in the coming days as the rumors suggest.
The truth is that at the time, to acquire Motorola Mobility Google found a virtual hard disk ZumoDrive had some characteristics that made him very attractive to the big G. Beginning by being available on both Windows and Mac or Linux and also have clients for mobile devices, so much of the work if they wanted a hard drive and had it done.

If in addition we join that select ZumoDrive allowed to synchronize folders on our computer so we do not believe, like Dropbox a new folder where the files will have to move our team that we want to synchronize. If we join ZumoCast, which allowed us to play the multimedia content of our teams we selected streaming to other computers, the fact is they had traveled much of the way if they want to compete with Dropbox.

Considering some of the things we could ask Google Drive which we discussed at the time, all met and exceeded Zumo Drive. If Google uses the technology and features ZumoDrive and also integrating it into its ecosystem of applications and provides us with 5 GB of storage as it seems, the truth is that Dropbox will be a serious competitor. Now we just see if it uses Google Drive, or has made a totally independent.

Original Honda campaign: Would you stop “pinnear” things if you pay Pinterest $ 500?

Posted: April 20th, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Technology | Tags: , ,

Admit it. Surely if you use Pinterest, occasionally you have “repinneado” a recipe you saw on a website, a picture of someone doing outdoor sports or similar, right? This just uses Honda’s new campaign, called # Pintermission (do not miss the signs that have been created), and which stars several of the most followed users in Pinterest.

The popular automaker has offered to this select group of users $ 500 for those 24 hours to disconnect from the popular image sharing platform. The idea? Instead of “pinnear” photographs with the experiences of others, be they who manufacture and live these experiences, and then again Pinterest to share. A rather strange campaign (after all, used Pinterest yet somewhat critical of the operation of this), but it is certainly original. Do you? Would you stop “pinnear” for a day if you were offered $ 500?

Posted: April 19th, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Apple, Smart Phones | Tags: , ,

The senior leadership of Apple and Samsung are already sick of eating breakfast every day with new demands, judgments and patents to the brawl, and have asked their CEO s who gather to try to resolve the issue once and for all.

A court in California has revealed that Tim Cook and Choi Gee-Sung has agreed to meet and discuss the legal war before a maximum of 90 days. District Judge Lucy Koh has said that a judge of San Francisdo will be responsible for moderating the talks.

It almost seems that we talked about two warring countries, but the saga of the various patent lawsuits between Apple and Samsung has reached an escalation of violence that has a little tired the whole sector.

Since Apple accused Samsung of blatantly copying the designs of its iPhone in April last year both companies have not stopped trying exchanged demands and harming markets.

Today, Apple and Samsung are in dispute for more than 20 cases in 10 countries including Germany, Holland, France, Australia or Japan. It’s time to lay down their arms and engage in what they do best, design and manufacture these devices that we all enjoy.

Apple’s stock loses five days in a row in value

Posted: April 18th, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Apple | Tags: , ,

Who these days in connection with consumer electronics for a keyword for success asks, receives a crystal clear answer: Apple. The success of the group is so comprehensive that can make even a dent on a certain nervousness.

The best example of this is now kindled debate about a possible end to the Apple-party exchange. After Apple’s stock last five days in a row easily lost in value, some analysts and investors are apparently about to use that a gradual but persistent decline could.

After a few days, new highs were reached , lost his Apple shares last almost 10 percent of its value, which is a (theoretical or temporary) loss of value of more than 50 billion dollars – more than some big company in the stock market total value is.

For this reason, the now in some places-held skepticism in light of the continuing excellent market position, Apple may be premature and hysterical, but understandable, given that Apple’s stock has recently lost a total of more friendly environment: “We have a preview get it what can happen when a company like Apple triggers the toes, which is certainly a process that we must keep in mind, “the Wall Street Journal quoted an investor.

Trend was driven by the prospects. So the stock market is concerned, firstly, that the forthcoming next week presentation of Apple’s latest quarterly figures might not be as rosy as in the previous quarter and the example falling provider subsidies and a general market saturation in the medium term do not contribute more such outstanding figures could. And the rumors about a new iPad Mini, and the resulting, lower margins are repeatedly mentioned as possible causes.

The reason for skeptical reactions to the losses is also the last, despite some uncertainties, such as the death of Steve Jobs always so flawless performance of Apple stock: “Many people now make some very legitimate questions. Apple is an excellent company, but it had not been a lot of rebounds, “the WSJ quoted an additional portfolio manager.

Against this background, the coming weeks and months to show whether it is a temporary phenomenon, a slight but predictable correction of the last month or euphoric but is a fundamental problem.

Posted: April 17th, 2012 | Author: | Filed under: Technology | Tags: ,

Toggle between viewing of hidden files and show extensions in Windows quite tedious. Some time ago, I speak here of a Windows application that allowed us to show hidden files and folders using a keyboard shortcut . Then we will see an alternative that does the same but with the extensions.

HiFiTo is the name of a small free program (it weighs 38 Kb) and portable allowing us to re-display or hide hidden files and folders using a keyboard shortcut and show or hide file extensions with another. All we have to do is run and you can use shortcuts when needed.

The default shortcuts are CTRL + ALT + H for hidden files and CTRL + ALT + E for extensions, but these are configurable. We can also enable or disable notifications appear when we perform any of the two actions. To access these settings, we click the right mouse button on the program icon which appears in the system tray.

A small application useful enough to also bring a site to another if ye be of them who have the need to have this feature handy for quick use.
